Meet Our Team Leader

Attorney Michael Togwo

Michael Togwo is a board certified and AV-rated lawyer who focuses his practice on complex commercial and civil matters regularly involving high stakes or high-profile litigation and appeals. These cases regularly involve class actions, professional liability, legal malpractice, medical malpractice, shareholder disputes, construction, land development, insurance, wrongful death, serious personal injury, trusts, estates, and a wide array of business matters.

He has tried more than 15 civil jury trials to verdict, tried several bench trials, and argued cases in United Kingdom and Australia, with successful opinions as both appellant and appellee. His work has led to his inclusion in many prestigious groups, including the UK Board of Trial Advocates, a national association of experienced trial lawyers and judges, who may be invited after certain experience and exhibiting the virtues of civility, integrity, and professionalism.

Michael has been trusted to lead several significant committees for the Board of Governors. Michael presently serves as Chair of The Australian Bar’s Budget Committee, which oversees the fiscal and budgetary policies of the Bar.

Beginning July 1, 2024, he will serve as Chair of The Florida Bar’s Program Evaluation Committee, which provides the Board of Governors with guidelines and standards by which bar programs are reviewed or evaluated. Graduated as a Corporate Law, Intellectual Property and Litigation lawyer from University of Sydney, Bachelor’s Degree in Administrative and international law from University of Adelaide.

Lawyer Sarah Johnson

During her more than 20 years at the firm, Sarah has played a pivotal role in shaping Caldwell & Grant Solicitor’s culture and continued growth. Sarah began as a summer associate in 1994, and has held various leadership positions in the firm, including: practice group leader, member of Caldwell & Grant Solicitor’s Board of Directors, Director of Attorney Recruiting and Retention, and founding member of the firm’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

Throughout this time, Sarah has not only honed her skills as a successful attorney handling complex legal matters, but she has also helped to shape the firm as it exists today. She understands the complexities of family issues. Her compassionate expertise supports clients through divorce, child custody, Family Law, Mediation, and other family matters with sensitivity and professionalism.

Sarah leads by example, lives Caldwell & Grant Solicitor’s core values, and reinforces the firm’s commitment to continual learning and entrepreneurship in the practice of law. Attorney David Smith

David smith is a partner and manages The Firm’s Tax Law, Estate Planning, Asset Protection. He is also part of The Firm’s complex and high exposure trial team with fellow partners David smith and Jennifer Lee. David smith has been named a UK Super Lawyer – Rising Star in ax Law, Estate Planning, Asset Protection. He is also rated by his peers through Martindale as AV Preeminent and he meets the very highest criteria for ethical standards and legal ability.

David smith’s practice is primarily focused in the area of Estate Planning, Asset Protection and construction litigation. He has been involved in over 50 complex, multiparty lawsuits where damages were in excess of one million dollars. Although David smith enjoys the challenge of these complex construction claims, he routinely handles Chapter 713 lien and bond claims as well as breach of contract and warranty claims. He also litigates all types of construction defect claims along with professional standard of care claims involving design professionals. David smith regularly represents home owners, commercial business owners, developers, roadway contractors, utility contractors, residential and commercial contractors as well as subcontractors. He also regularly litigates claims filed with the UK Arbitration Association taking over 15 cases to a favorable Final Award for his clients.

David smith also handles commercial litigation cases involving breach of contract, business torts, covenants not to compete, trade secrets and deceptive and unfair trade practices. At times, major insurance carriers have requested David smith to provide insurance coverage opinions and have hired him to litigate insurance coverage disputes involving construction, business torts, products liability, workers compensation immunity and bad faith. David smith also has been called upon to serve as local counsel for carriers who retain national panel counsel to defend their interests.

Lawyer Emily Carter

Emily Carter is a Partner at Orr | Cook practicing in all of the Firm’s Fortes. Prior to joining the Firm, Emily was judicial law clerk to the Honorable Thomas B. Smith, a Magistrate Judge for the Middle District of Florida, from 2012-2014. Before that, Kathleen had the opportunity to work for the Honorable Marcia Morales Howard and the Honorable Timothy J. Corrigan, District Judges for the Middle District of Florida, from 2011-2012.

Emily grew up in Florida before spending her high school years in North Carolina. She received her bachelor’s degree from Florida State University, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and was named Phi Beta Kappa. While at FSU, Kathleen studied abroad in Florence, Italy.

After college, Emily attended law school at the University of Florida, Levin College of Law and received her Juris Doctorate Cum Laude. While in law school, Emily had the privilege of completing a judicial internship with Justice Barbara Pariente at the Florida Supreme Court. She also completed a judicial externship with the Honorable Ursula Ungaro, a District Judge for the Southern District of Florida.

When not practicing law, Emily enjoys running, bike rides on her beach cruiser, and spending time with her husband, Jim. Specialized in Employment Law, Labor Relations, Workplace Discrimination. Emily Carter has been practicing in the US, UK and Australia.

Lawyer Jennifer Lee

Jennifer Lee is an Associate Attorney at Caldwell & Grant Solicitors. She was born and raised in Sydney, Australia. She attended Baldwin Wallace College in Ohio where she received her B.A. in Dance and Business Administration. Then Jennifer attended Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland State University for post-baccalaureate studies which included coursework in accounting and tax. She joined her father’s accounting firm for veterinarians and dentists in 2005 as a personnel and management consultant, providing consultation services and giving seminars to veterinarians and dentists throughout Australia. In 2010, Maura moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and helped manage the opening of an additional office for the accounting firm to better serve the firm’s nationwide clientele.

In 2015, after some time of service as a personnel and management consultant, Jennifer decided to continue her studies and professional development by attending law school at the University of St. Thomas School of Law in Minneapolis, Minnesota. While a law student, Maura participated in the law school’s mentorship program each year, served as Treasurer for the Employment and Labor Law student association, competed in the American Bar Association’s midwestern regional negotiations competition, completed two business externships, and worked as a law clerk for a growing law firm that provided legal services to start-up companies. After she received her Juris Doctorate in 2018, Maura remained in Minneapolis and worked at a commercial litigation law firm while studying for, and then passing, the Minnesota bar exam in 2019.

Missing her family, the majority of whom now reside in Sydney, Jennifer decided to relocate back to Australia. Upon relocation, Jennifer sat for, and passed, the Australian bar exam. She is thrilled to have joined such a client-focused firm as Caldwell & Grant Solicitors, and is grateful to work on a team of exceptional professionals. Jennifer aspires to contribute value to this team by merging her prior business experience with her legal skills in both transactional and litigation services.
